Football Team Balancer

Paste your players, give each one a rating, tap the button. You get fair sides for training, balanced on ability and on positions, so nobody ends up with three keepers and no defence. It's the same balancing engine that runs inside the Team Selector app, running here in your browser. Nothing you type leaves this page.

Your players

Rating is 1 to 99, like the app. A quick gut feel is fine: 40 for a beginner, 65 for a solid squad player, 85 for your best. Position is the family they usually play in. Positions are what stop the split putting all your defenders on one side.

How the balancing works

It's a two-pass optimiser, the same code the app runs. First it deals with goalkeepers: natural keepers go one per team, strongest first. Then it seeds the outfield players family by family (defence, midfield, wide, attack), always dropping the next player onto whichever team is weakest so far. Then it runs a few hundred random swaps between teams and keeps any that make the sides closer, on three things at once: average rating, how many of each position each team has, and how good those position groups are. Reshuffle runs the whole thing again with fresh randomness and only shows you a split that's actually different.

The verdict is the gap between the strongest and weakest team's average rating. Three points or under is Balanced, up to six is Slightly uneven, above that it's Uneven and you probably need one more player or a different keeper arrangement. If you've got two keepers of very different ability, the outfield split compensates for it. That was a real bug once, and a real coach found it.

Prefer the whole thing on your phone with your squad already in it? That's the app. Want to know why balanced training groups matter? There's a guide.
